Spray foam provides optimum air sealing because it is a barrier where air can not penetrate through and adheres to whatever surface it is placed. The greatest areas of air leakage occur in attics. To improve any existing insulation or if you are upgrading your insulation, the attic floor has many areas that can be air sealed. Can lighting can be air sealed by modifying can light covers and air sealing them. Can lighting provides large gaps of air to penetrate through and should be sealed properly to avoid leakage. The area cut around wires, plumbing and exhaust fans can be air sealed in the attic and in basement areas. Duct work, chimney areas, pipes, top plates, rim joists and HVAC wiring can also be air sealed in the weatherization process. If you remove existing insulation and find that it is dirty, it’s due to the fact of air leaving your living environment. The insulation acts an air filter as air is lost and can be avoided by air sealing on the attic floor. Windows and doors are another area of air leakage we are more likely to notice. Foam and caulking can be used to help improve efficiency in these areas. Once all air leaks have been sealed, you can notice the change in your home environment and on utility bills.
Duct sealing is a way to improve your living environment and energy efficiency. Duct work is used to distribute air from your HVAC into your living space and often has leaks and found to be poorly connected. About 20-30% of air loss in ducts is due to leaks, holes and poor connections. It can be difficult to identify problems with duct work as is concealed in attics, basements, walls and ceiling. If you notice that your HVAC unit is over working, reduced air flow or spotty air flow in different parts of your home, your duct work should be inspected. To seal cracks, holes, duct connectors and registers, we use low pressure spray foam. The spray foam bonds to the duct work and creates and air and moisture barrier. By sealing up these air leaks in duct work you benefit by lower utility bills, improved air efficiency and comfortably.
To optimize efficiency in duct work you want to make sure that they are well insulated. By adding a lower pressure foam to all of the duct work, you are going to maximize your system to provide the most accurate temperature and air flow into your living area. Insulating your duct work with a low pressure foam will also prevent any moisture and condensation that can drip and mildew the area around. Once our technicians have inspected duct work, they can provide you with a FREE estimate for duct sealing/insulation. Our goal is to help your save energy and live comfortably.
